Strongman is great for women
When I first heard about strongman training a couple months ago, I did not even consider trying this kind of hardcore training because I was a girl weighing under 50kg (110lb) and I was not exactly what you would consider “Strong”. My normal everyday training consisted of a little bit of cardio, pin loaded machine work and circuits, which after a week or two became rather boring and I ended up lacking motivation.
My partner has been running those Strongman Saturday training at his gym so I finally decided to give Strongman training a go. Initially I was a bit intimated and embarrassed that I could not lift as heavy as some of the athletes that were training with me but that feeling soon disappeared as I realized that no one except me was worried or criticizing me. Instead everyone was so motivating, helpful and encouraging. After this strongman session, my workouts and training completely changed and I no longer wanted to do any bodybuilding type training. I was determined to improve my strength, technique and fitness in a more functional way of training. Now, training has been more enjoyable and I am only focused on getting stronger and improve my form on all the strongman events. Participating in the strongman Saturday is always exciting as I always do different events, medley or exercises. I can say that the training is really versatile and always challenging. Seeing myself gaining strength helps me in everyday life, carrying grocery bags is not as tiring as it used to be.
My training is focused on practicing the overhead presses (e.g. continental press, keg press, log press and monster dumbbell), front squat, deadlift, and farmer’s carry. My personal goal is now to be able to load the 50kg atlas stone on the platform.
I am now joining strongman group training at Coco’s gym, I could never see myself going back to any “Globo” gyms as none of those gyms have the unique strongman equipment that I enjoy playing with.
